Aplicare® used Value Innovation principles to help it identify the nurse (HCP) as the most important customer in the value chain, not the purchasing agent. This breakthrough led to the development of a new Value Curve addressing the problems faced by the HCP using conventional kits. New elements of performance were identified to “create” a “Blue Ocean” opportunity.
The company introduced their “Aplicare® Advantage™ Dressing Change System™” at a nursing convention in early May 2006; the response from end users and distributors has been “phenomenal.” Priced at a 50% premium to current dressing change kits, the value innovation product is drawing accolades from health care professionals, buyers, and even competitors. Aplicare® was granted a US patent on November 13, 2007 (US Patent # 7,293,654) and anticipates expanding this unique packaging concept to other procedure kits.
